The victory of a former student of its Mechatronics department in this year’s technopreneurs programme of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO) is a sign of the hard work and dedication of the staff the Federal University Oye Ekiti, a senior official of the school has said. The victory comes just as the Institution received a notice from the National Universities Commission (NUC) that all its academic programmes have been fully accredited.
Ibiyemi Pedro Sanni, who holds a Mechatronics Engineering Degree from Federal University Oye-Ekiti,last week finished top at the FIIROHOUSE TV Reality Show, winning the 10Million Naira Prize and a chance to be guided and mentored by FIIRO until he becomes a top industrialists in Nigeria. FIIRO is a Federal Organization under the ministry of science and technology found in 1956 to research and develop technologies for industrialization in Nigeria, Today FIIRO has over 250 researched and developed technologies ready for the industries with all machineries and equipment fabricated locally.
Sanni, who graduated top of his department, is an automation engineer and an expert product designer. His recently established company, Bluetenant, is an automation service and 3D manufacturing company that automates processes, manufacture machine parts, prototypes and prosthetics for the medical industry.
The FIIRO HOUSE Show was created as a tri party arrangement between FIIRO, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and Lashone Links Group of Companies. It is aimed at empowering Nigerian youths by selecting three outstanding entrepreneurs from across Nigeria. 25 housemates were selected across Nigeria from all states and regions to compete for 25 Million, 15 Million and 10Million naira respectively.
The winners are then provided with building, machineries, equipment and running capital to run any company of their choice selected from FIIRO technologies.
Dr. Adekunle Adefemi Adeyemi, head of department of the FUOYE Mechatronics Engineering Department, said the department is acknowledged as the best in the country. Festo Didactic recently gave the department equipment worth of N20m to equip its laboratory.
‘’Mechatronics encompasses Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Electricals,’’ he said As a Mechatronics engineer, you are better off than all the three encompassed courses. Personally, I have built drones, inverter powered lawnmower and Robotic Lawnmower at the school.
Last year, we participated in the Student Competition at the Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology (CODET) and we came first out of all d Federal Universities, State Universities and Private Universities in the country.
The NUC organized the accreditation of academic programmes at FUOYE in November last year and the result, according to the NUC, shows a full accreditation for the programmes examined. Full accreditation status for a programme lasts for five years.
