Two members of the Union of Campus Journalists, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, (UCJ-FUOYE), have been shortlisted for the Campus Journalism Awards for the year 2020.

Ajala Samuel, disclosed that the cheery news was broken to them via email from award organisers, Youth Digest an offshoot of Readers' Digest. “I got to know through the email they sent to me. I actually feel very excited”.

According to him, “This is recognition for our good works and we will keep doing more to promote campus journalism in every part of Nigeria”, Ajala pledged.

Screening for the award involved over 266 entries from over 50 institutions in Nigeria. Some of the categories competed for are Upcoming Writer, Entertainment Writer, Sports Writer, Reporter, Gender-Equality Writer, Broadcaster, and Photojournalist among others.

The other awardee, Daniel Whyte, also expressed joy at the award when he said, “I am delighted to hear the news that I have been shortlisted for the prestigious award that recognizes and honours the works of campus journalists. It is great to be among the selected finalists”.

While Daniel is a recent graduate of FUOYE from the English and Literary Studies Department and a former Editor-in-Chief of the FUOYE Campus Journal, FCJ,  Ajala Samuel is a 400 level student of the Department of History and International Relations and a key member of the union. He is also the Public Relations Officer of the National Union of Campus Journalists (NUCJ).

Awards presentation is slated for 28th of March, 2020 at the Bolton White Hotel, Area 11, Abuja.
