The statement about sundry fees reduction by FUOYE student union leaders has been debunked by the Dean of Students Affairs in a correspondence released on 23rd December, 2018 via WhatsApp.
It should be recalled that UCJFUOYE on December 21, 2018 reported on FUOYE sundry fees reduction as claimed by FUOYE student union executives in their press release.
In their press release, FUOYESU executives noted that on accommodation, transportation, infrastructures, and sundry fees “series of resolutions have been made in which we believe should be put in place before resumption and before the end of January as the case may be”.
Among the resolutions noted are accommodation and Sundry fees reduction. It was noted in the press release that the stand of the executives is that the school hostel in Oye campus be reduced from 50,000 to 40,000 while Ikole Campus’ is reduced from 35,000 to 25,000.
Furthermore, it was noted that the sundry fees has been reduced. While the fees from fresh students in faculties of Arts, Social Science, Education, Management was reduced from 103,500 to 93,000, the fees for students in Science, Agriculture, Engineering, Science Education was reduced from 111,500 to 101,000.
Similarly, the fees for returning students under faculties of Arts, Social Science, Education, Management Science was reduced from 45,000 to 39,000 while fees for students in Science, Agriculture, Engineering, was reduced from 53,000 to 47,000.
It was also claimed that the fees have been consolidated as SUG fee, Field trip et cetera has been added to the sundry fees. As well, it was noted that the Entrepreneurship fee is only payable by Fresh student and Second year students.
However, the Dean of Students in a correspondence released via WhatsApp has debunked the statement of reduction in Sundry fees which was made by the Student Union executives.
While referring to the Student union publication in the correspondence, the Dean, Dr. Malomo noted that “there is no doubt that the Student Union leadership made concerted efforts to make sure that the entire students settle down comfortably on the University campus with the provision of good accommodation, security, transportation services, conducive learning environment and reduction in school fees etc.”
The Dean also affirmed that “it is true that the Student Union leadership had a meeting with the Vice Chancellor in conjunction with the Ag. Dean of Students a week ago.” And that “the body made several requests to make sure that the university is in a comfortable position for all students.”
However, while speaking on the sundry fees reduction, the Dean said “there is no time the University agreed to amend its fees even though it opened doors of slight change in order where possible as discussion progressed”.
“The entire students should note that the University will not hesitate to make any necessary amendment when comfortable”, he concluded.
Speaking to UCJFUOYE on the development, the Student’s Union Vice President, Adeleye Adedapo said “the best answer is we are working on it”.
Consequently, in a publication dated 24th December, 2018, the students leaders have urged the students “to pend the payment of the sundry fees; until a positive redress is made on the portal about the reduction of sundry fees”.
